november 29th – again!
Well, thanks to the nutbags in my room, I decide to have a lie-in. Well, at least that is my excuse. When I finally rise, I wander the block and a half down to Waikiki Beach, and boy is it pretty. Off to the left (if you are looking at the beach) is Diamond Head, an old volcanic crater, and palm trees everywhere. And you know how much I love palm trees…
And then it was lunch time. My first experience of spending the australian dollar outside of Australia is pretty horrific – I know that Waikiki is bound to be a little pricey, but everything almost twice as expensive? So with chips and a drink I wander down most of the beach, marvel at the huge amount of shops, and am scared by the huge amount of people here. Then I take off my t-shirt to do some sunbathing, and everyone scarpers. Which is a result. The afternoon is spent ploughing through my book (so I don’t have to carry it anymore) and getting a good tan going.
Life is tough.
In the evening I attempt to find some cheap dinner, and end up in Taco Bell, but only because I have no willpower – I put in writing here that I will never eat there again. Wandering back to the hostel in the balmy twilight I happen across some free entertainment down by the beach. No, not that kind of entertainment, but a ‘hula’ show, with a pretty girl, a pretty boy and some damn fine music. I tell you, I was this close to volunteering to go up and learn, it looked that much fun. One photo of the statue of Duke Paoa Kahanmoku – the father of international surfing – and then it was time to turn in.
I could get used to this.
