Don’t buy things for your girlfriend…

I think that online retailers need a button that says “I am buying this on behalf of someone else”. And I think they need it with some urgency.

The iTunes music store has just sprouted a ‘beta’ feature (to be one of the cool kids) that recommends music for you based on your past purchases. And the horrifying side effects of that are shown above. Now, there is nothing wrong with Queen per se, but I don’t really want all my future recommendations to have some element of the fact that I have previously bought Def Leppard.

As we move into the future with everyone knowing everything about everyone, things like this could become embarrassing. So I want, no need, this expunged from my history, and if that makes me Big Brother, so be it…
