toronto – back where it all began

1 minute read

This was the part of the trip that had been giving me the butterflies the most – going back to Toronto, where I was really hit by the travelling bug. I was to meet Lynne (the ‘chubby’ girl on the left of the second photo and a friend I met while travelling around Australia) and, thankfully, she was at the airport to meet me in the frozen wasteland that is Toronto. After throwing on every layer of clothing I had, she drove us back to her house in Scarborough (which is in greater Toronto). It had been a long time since we had last seen each other, so we spent the rest of the day looking at photos and reminiscing (and warming up my little tootsies).

I was too tired to do anything that evening, so I convinced Lynne to get the Chicken Run. She was dubious. She was right to be…

The next day we decided to head down to Niagra Falls, about a 90 minute drive away, via the local Mall to put my photos in for developing (which was an experience in itself). Thankfully, the Falls were hidden by a huge cloud of mist which not only ruined my photos, but drifted over and attached to our faces for that “i’m stuck in a meat-locker and can’t get out” feeling. To treat ourselves, we wen’t to Wendy’s for dinner. Oh, sorry, I meant to punish ourselves – sometimes, kids, saving money is just not worth it.

In the evening we went to the local bar to meet some of Lynne’s friends and experience the true local hospitality. What Lynne forgot to mention was that Sunday is ‘mad’ night at the bar, and we were surrounded by nutbags for most of the evening, which was nice, in a ‘free entertainment’ kind of way. There wasn’t anymore snow yet, but there was 20cm forecast for the next day…
